5950_10201883559195773_1400998695_nA word about my doula fees.  I charge 2500 for birth doula support.  That is my fee.  If your family finds that number distressing – please know that I am willing to discuss a fee that will work for your family.
I have had clients say that this makes them uncomfortable – that they want to pay me what  I am worth..
I would like to say that my worth is not determined by what my client pays me.  What Is important is that my client family feels that I am their doula.  that they feel comfortable with me,and  that I can support them.  What matters is that they want me with them during one of the most intimate and live changing moments of their lives – the birth of their child.
If they after due consideration of their finances feel that they need to pay other that my fee. …

What is obstetric violence?

obstetric violence picture

Obstetric violence is physical or mental violation towards a woman during her pregnancy and birth by her healthcare.

Bearing in mind that with the statistics of 1 in 3 women being raped (in South Africa) – pregnancy can be a result of sexual abuse. Or a planned and happy pregnant lady may have been previously abused and this will affect her.

Obstetric violence may be a per vaginal (PV) examination without explanation to her, forcing a pv on a lady who doesn’t want one, doing one without indication, being rough or disrespectful.

Yes, it happens. It has happened to me – “Please will you do the PV on her – she is being very unco-operative and you have small hands.” Why was the 21 year old primigravid from another country, who couldn’t speak English and was maybe in labour…

Summation Sunday ~ The Resurrection Of Motherhood

Community-Based Workforce Innovation Program

Tearing Down The Old Temple

Let me begin by saying there is no such thing as death. There is only the balance of transition and this is the burning contradiction that breaks the connection between being present and the vulnerability of fulfilling the bodies life purpose. What is no longer useful to the world will pass on into the next dimension and that includes human life. At the pace we live at, stress causes tremendous problems on our nervous system. That is why the breath is so important.  The breath of life is the greatest natural resource know to the human body. It nourishes our cells and tissues, bringing life back into our total being. Simple relaxation and deep breathing stimulates the vibration of the body, thus sealing the needed energy to help reset and rebuild the bodies full potential of mental, emotional, and physical performance. That is why old…

A Sacred Model of Birth

A beautiful mediation on birth!

I Am Sacred Woman has moved to www.drgaurilowe.com

At the Midwifery and Birth Conference 2014 in Cape Town my topic for my presentation was “The Balance Between the Medical and Midwifery Model of Birth”. Contemplating this topic – I realised the vastness, politics and definitions of it.

Every pregnant lady deserves to be spoilt and made to feel beautiful and amazing! Every pregnant lady deserves to be spoilt and made to feel beautiful and amazing!

Below is my talk in text and audible on the video presentation. Please sit back, have a listen and consider the proposal of a Sacred Model of Birth.

After my presentation, a lovely midwife, who honours birth space very wonderfully, approached me and asked a question, “That is very nice and I agree – but HOW do you do that in certain circumstances?”

After some consideration – here is my answer:- That a sacred model of birth lies not only in the practical considerations, but is mostly lying in our inner PRECENSE that we are holding at…

My Story

Samsarah Morgan , Birth Worker

I am in the process of taking the training required to be a Dr Sears pregnancy health coach!

I thought i would share this post with you – one of the excecises asked me to share a bit of my story.  Here it is!

My story…

My desire to be a teacher of good health and wellness in pregnancy was born as I served women as a doula, childbirth educator and family life coach.

I am a firm believer in the life saving value of natural and vaginal birth. And I have absolute trust that this system of human gestation, labor and delivery is a scared path. A path that is designed for the growth, enrichment, and spiritual, development of mothers and their partners. Birth ought to be a right of passage, a portal that through which a woman passes and emerges on the other end a…
